Job Posting FAIL

I'm posting this as a short explanation as to why I so rarely get along with other independent filmakers. What the fuck does "relationship based thriller" mean?

Battlestar Finale

L.A. Times posted a Battlestar Galactica drinking game. Too bad Rich's Lost drinking game is way cooler.

In response to the author's query, more people watch Lost because it's called "Lost" and the cast aren't living on space ships. Yeah, I know, it's the sad truth.

Cats

I'm growing fond of these "cat" creatures.

This particular one is not fond of me. Unless taking a swipe at me is a sign of affection. I dunno, I grew up with dogs like this:

Corp-Speak: Phrases I hate Part Two

Today's loathsome utterance: Officially.

Ex. I officially don't understand Animal Collective.

Really? It's official? Did you appeal to your congressman and get a signed entreaty? Good.

Jump off a fucking cliff.

Urban Libraries Suck

I Lingered at my neighborhood library for about twenty minutes this afternoon; fifteen minutes longer than it should have taken me to realize there was nothing there to justify the effort of coming back to the library. The "adult" section - it was actually labeled as such - was in a sad state of affairs. I counted three shelves of Danielle Steele novels, and every Robert Ludlum book under the sun, but nay with anything approaching a worthwhile read. A perfectly good library filled with roman de gare...

I'll dispense with any pretense (taking into account I just used the phrase 'roman de gare' in a poor excuse for a sentence) and admit to my own hypocrisy here. I realize I'd rather purchase a book than borrow one, so I have contributed to the decline of neighborhood libraries in a very real way. It's just that witnessing the state of such valuable resources really makes me regret my lower middle class obsession with owning things. Especially in these times when forking over twenty dollars for a book becomes less attractive every day.

On the bright side, everyone patroning the library looked to be between eight to fourteen. I bring this up because at least fifty percent of the books were labeled 'children.' Which doesn't appeal to me but maybe it's a good omen for the future of education in our country.

New Computer

Just as Admiral Adama has accepted the inexorable truth about his dying Battlestar, I too have prepared myself for an upgrade to a kind of Cylon Basestar - pictured here in the form of this massive new laptop:

I've transferred everything I couldn't bear to part with from the reliable heap I've been operating for five years. The last stage involved cracking into the DVD-RW drive to extract a Blackberry installation disc - pictured here as photographed on my Blackberry:

As testament to this old girl's reliability - I spilled coffee on her twice thus far into my seven month tenancy in the House of Fairfax. Believe it or not the coffee mishap wasn't the impetus for purchasing a new laptop. It had no effect on the old PC's performance.

So now I have a fully functioning PC taking up precious leg room, and it begs the question, what can I do with an old computer? I'd like to recycle this machine and put it to good use before it ends up on a Brooklyn sidewalk. MAME-ing it comes to mind, followed by decorative Pac Man table. Perhaps some artistic endeavor. Maybe create a pleasure bot. If any of my chums on google reader can think of something I'm open to suggestions. Comment away.

Query

I can't find a decent news feed dedicated to the serious study and creation of new independent science fiction. I know my brethren are out there - though I'm guessing the stereotype of the reclusive misanthropic nerd might be the impediment here. Or maybe I'm not looking hard enough...
