Anime Vault

Syfy is going to start airing Monster in October. This is a series I've been interested in for a while though I think this is it's North American debut. Exciting!

My good friend and former roomate Alpha Jammer Visco gave me a copy of a Rumiko Takahashi art book with all kinds of Ranma 1/2 drawings and such. Made me feel nostalgic and realize how heavily I was influenced by anime in general during my formative years. Thus I've decided to return to my roots, especially since I've felt outside of myself recently.

My entire collection of fansubs was pretty much given away when I left home. Thank heavens advances in Flash video have made it possible to replace anything from my childhood with a few torrent searches.

Furthermore - I've decided Uniqlo has finally made it okay - if not fashionable - to express an interest in manga and anime without having to feel particularly wierd. They sold me a pretty sweet t-shirt for this series pictured in the video below.

And while I'm feeling nostalgic - here's another old gem I'm not ashamed to say I remember fondly.

Yup.

Fox News Has Lost It

I understand this is out of context, but I'm really tired of people comparing anything to the holocaust. And what the hell is he on about with this (video below)? I sincerely hope this has nothing to do with the health care debate. Because that means the conservatives have spun the idea of "healthcare reform" into anti-american socialist madness, and now it's apparently on par with the holocaust.

Let me get this straight Glenn Beck. It would be really awful if we started practicing eugenics in the United States because your daughter would be sterilized. And Obama's health care reform would pave the way for innocent retards to be eugenicized (if that's a word).

If that's your argument I'd like to point out that eugenics has been practiced in the United States. In fact California allows for voluntary sterilization for sex offenders to reduce sentences. Not only that but there have been two active eugenics parties since the early twenties. They took the word eugenics out after WWII for obvious reasons.

And who has generally supported these programs? Conservatives as far as I can tell. Has something to do with saving taxpayer money or some such thing. And Objectivists, but that's a whole other rant.

Here's the video:

Is it just me or did they stop reporting news? Because it sure seems like most of their program is either someone shouting or crying. Reminds me of church.

I Will Never Leave You Screaming For My Comic

This edition might require extraneous elucidation. Little things can easily become a chore when you let them. I'd noticed my comic getting stale for a few weeks and I decided to challenge myself. I figure I could keep dressing the same joke in a different suit, but where's the fun in that?

There isn't any particular joke in this comic. This is because I draw a rough storyboard before I get to work, but the dialogue is generally the last thing I sort out. I have a vague idea how many words I need to fit in, and it usually isn't a problem. This week I got caught up in the drawing and consequently the final product suffered. But I don't feel disappointed, largely because I think it's a decent drawing, especially considering my obvious lack of talent. It should be pretty evident that this whole site is a work in progress...I have yet to find the time to copyedit any shorts I've written since I started.

This humble little project has always been secondary to the rest of my work, especially now when I have other professional pursuits that have deadlines. But now that it's clearly here to stay, I've decided to keep it going as long as I can and see what happens.

I should also briefly mention the source material. This is largely borrowed from the opening scene of an ancient draft of Blade Runner (when it was still called Dangerous Days - yeah I'm that huge of a nerd). This popped into my head because it's a pretty cool fucking scene as written in the script, and because I had the idea all week to make a sci-fi original (a la Spaceman Spiff) - starring myself as the hapless dimwitted bounty hunter or cowboy jockey. So this week was a warmup. Hopefully as I improve technically I'll come up with a better original scenario.

Until then, I remain, Bob Officer. Thanks for stopping by.

Neill Bllomkampf Rulez

I've got a pretty big boner for this District 9 movie, though until last night I didn't reall go out of my way top satisfy my curiosity about this Blomkampf fellow.

Turns out he's pretty awesome. And he's doing what I wish I was doing right now. Making awesome Sci-fi. Sigh...This further expounds on my theory that every good idea I've had will be made better by someone more qualified.

Shit Job Postings

Synergy is bullshit, preditor's aren't real, and hiring one person to do the work of two saves no one time or money.
